"Interaction of Nurses' faith, spiritual care, and institutional policy"  The goal of this project is to better understand the lived experience of Christian nurses, in particular the interactions between the nurse's faith, spiritual care, and institutional policy.  From data collected in this study, Christian nurses can better understand when and how to sensitively implement spiritual care while regarding patient beliefs, ethics, and institutional policies.

"The investigation, through analytical essay, of the ways in which contemporary coming-of-age narratives differ from traditional ones" (2019)  Elizabeth Zimmerman

The coming-of-age novel is changing. No longer is the story solely focused on protagonists in the majority and their traditional search for identity, such as in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Contemporary coming-of-age novels are beginning to investigate the stories of those who are on the margins and their journeys to reconcile themselves to their diverse identities, such as in Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda. By making room for a new and diverse set of voices, these contemporary narratives have positively impacted the genre.  In my Departmental Honors Project, I wish to investigate, through an analytical essay, the ways in which contemporary coming-of-age narratives differ from traditional ones. Because they focus on characters outside the majority, contemporary narratives are structured differently. Traditional narratives are centered on a protagonist who experiences an external shift, such as going from rags-to-riches, and the new social status that comes with that. However, the world is changing rapidly, and the 21st century has changed the way we look at narrative.  Because of these changes, contemporary narratives document the social and internal transformations that a protagonist experiences as a result of a situation outside of their control. This transformation occurs because the protagonist is forced to come to terms with their identity, which they and/or others have identified as outside of the majority. However, the significance is not in who creates the label, but the protagonist's journey to becoming self-confident and empowered in said label. By investigating narrative structures that are formative for today's youth, I will demonstrate how literature has adapted to the changing environment in a positive manner, thereby maintaining relevance in a world dominated by uncertainty.
