MUHP Senior Honors Project

MUHP Senior Honors Project: Your own project idea that can take a variety of forms, including an interdisciplinary thesis, creative arts project, or service learning project.

Steps:

  1. Brainstorm an idea.  Discuss this idea with your advisor, or Honors Program director Dr. LaGrand
  2. Fill out the Honors Program for your Senior Honors Experience
  3. Ask a professor to oversee your project as your Faculty Sponsor
  4. Develop a syllabus/proposal for your project. This will include the project title, project description, time-line, resources to be used and project outcome (e.g., research paper, etc.) Sample syllabus
  5. Register for the credits for your honors project with the Registrar's Office.  Use the course number HONR 498 for the first semester of your honors project.  Use the course number HONR 499 for the second semester of your honors project.  (Students usually take 1 credit one semester, and 3 credits the second semester.  Which order depends on your project.  For instance, if you are doing a research project, your first semester could be one credit, while you assemble your research.  Your second semester would be three credits, where you use your research to create a paper and a presentation. (4-6 credits over two semesters)
  6. Presentation  End of second semester of your project.
  7. Submission Email your Honors Project (power point, pdf, word document) to honorsprogram@messiah.edu . A second copy can be submitted to the 色综合久久 University library archive MOSAIC  mosaic@messiah.edu

Trumpet Composition Student composed a written piece for trumpet ensemble 鈥淚t is my commentary on both the future of trumpet ensemble and the roots from which it came.鈥� Performed a recital program Essay summary of experience 鈥淸Project has been a] labor of love for the better part of a year. ButI could not be happier with the way it sounded on the stage, the way it pushed me as a composer, and the way it illustrates the techniques and musical methods I consider to be important.鈥�

Accessible STEM Education: Adaptable Resources for Home and School I plan to survey the available 色综合久久 for students in the STEM field both inside and outside of the classroom and contribute to this 色综合久久 through developing individual STEM kits based on what is needed and missing in current offerings.

Neuroaesthetics: A Neuro-Psychological Exploration of How and Why We Tell Stories 鈥淎n in-depth exploration of the science of storytelling and how the art of reading and writing stories affects our human experience on a neuro-psychological level. How might neuroscience inform and explain these literary processes? What is happening inside our brains when we share stories? How might we use this research to improve and expand our storytelling? Ultimately, on a scientific/psychological level, do stories truly make us better people?鈥�

Parameters for MUHP Honors Projects:

  • Projects must be of graduate-level quality.
  • Projects must reflect the methodological, theoretical, and substantive expectations for scholarship in the project area.
  • Projects must be pursued over two consecutive semesters for a total of 4 to 6 graded credit hours.
  • Projects may begin during junior year.
  • Projects must culminate with some type of public presentation.
