The new 1,740 square-foot Hostetter production studio divides its space between media (television) and film, and includes studio cameras, news set, studio lights and a corner-placed, endless floor green screen (as well as several portable green screens). An adjacent control room allows students to produce and edit live broadcasts via computer stations and monitors that control the audio, switcher, graphics, teleprompter and color correction. Also adjacent, the Foley studio allow for sound effects and other audio creation in film and media post-production. It features a sound booth, Foley pits (for putting various materials inside and creating sounds), a large monitor, microphones, and a computer station with Pro-tools and audio mixing equipment. A green room鈥攖he waiting area for talent before they go in to the studio for a production鈥攁dds a necessary touch to a professional-quality studio. The production space also includes a much-needed storage for the department鈥檚 video production equipment, as well as a dedicated circulation area for students to check out items. The Department recently invested in significant new equipment purchases鈥攊ncluding field kits for sound and lighting, HD cameras, and cinematic-quality cameras including five Blackmagics and a RED Epic (the same camera used to film 鈥淭he Hobbit鈥�).
