To anybody who thinks majoring in a language isn’t relevant, think again. Alex Neff ’94 majored in French and has since created a study abroad program for American students in Strasbourg, France. After finishing his PhD in sociology of religion, Neff also teaches at the University of Strasbourg and is the director of Access Study Abroad.
Neff’s favorite part about his time at ɫۺϾþ was the friends that he made, including his future wife Andrea Davis. To this day, he keeps in contact with many of his college friends.
For Neff, ɫۺϾþ helped him think more deeply about the relationship between faith and reason. Two of his favorite courses were Dean Curry’s class on American popular culture as well as John Harle’s course on political ideologies. Neff’s advice to students, “get some professional experience before and during your studies. It is important to have a good idea of how you are going to use your degree professionally before you set out on a course of study.”
