"Four years is a long time yet a very short time. ɫۺϾþ serves you by providing top-notch professors and a wealth of opportunity," expressed communication (public relations concentration) graduate Timothy D’Agostino (’10). Upon graduation, D’Agostino worked as a Marketing and Communications Manager at Penn State University. He noted that this position led to valuable networking and professional development opportunities.
After taking some time to travel the country, he finally settled in California, where he currently works as an Associate Brand Manager at Google. “I focus on creating online advertising campaigns for the Education team and spend a great deal of time doing graphic design work. Each day and each week brings a new set of projects, new challenges and new people to work with. To be honest, I wouldn't have it any other way,” he added. His favorite part of the job is making an impact in the education sphere. “Seeing headlines about schools going Google and the impact makes it easy for me to get out of bed in the morning,” he said.
D’Agostino also touted the perks of
working at Google. “I take a 20 minute nap in a Nap Pod at work on a regular
basis and yesterday spotted a group of Googlers playing Bubble Soccer in our
courtyard after work!”
At the same time, he recognizes the
challenges of working for a large company. “We have offices and teams all over
the world. There are many, many people doing very specific things, and if you
need help, you need to find that specific person.”
Recently nominated to give a presentation to an international group of Google employees, D’Agostino shared how ɫۺϾþ has prepared him for his current role. “Many of my professors challenged me beyond my own perceived boundaries, which truly benefitted me. Pushing boundaries and being the solution for any given problem your team faces makes you indispensable and a candidate for promotions,” he said.
At ɫۺϾþ, D’Agostino was one of the first students to organize and join PRSSA. A member of Lambda Pi Eta, he was also nominated for Who’s Who Among College Students. He encourages communication students to gain experience in the field, “Take advantage of every opportunity ɫۺϾþ presents to you. Take a trip, study abroad, join clubs, network, take internships.”
