As a very active and
passionate undergraduate student, Kara participated in two international
experiences while at É«×ۺϾþà College, including one to Thailand. Kara took
these same qualities with her after graduation, as she relocated to America's
southlands. In spring 2009, Kara accepted a position with Teach for America.
She then moved to Louisiana and worked as a special education teacher for
students in the fourth through sixth grade at Rosenwald Elementary School. In
August 2011, she returned to the Thai-Burmese border in August to live among
the Shan people (a minority which has frequently suffered under the conflict
with the Burmese military) and teach English. She originally volunteered
through Partners Relief and Development. Today she is a freelance writer,
mostly on issues relating to education, and a Shan pastor's wife, still located
on the Thai-Burmese border.
