Megan’s Career Journey
“I worked at a daycare, and that has taught me how to communicate with children in a loving manner, as well as teaching me patience. This has helped me to transition into working with the special needs population.”
Working as an Educational Para-Professional
“A normal day for an EPP is assisting the teacher in making the environment and classroom acceptable and appropriate for the special education population. I work specifically with children with autism. We work with them on art projects, social interaction, play, and motor activities, and lots more. It is an honor to be a part of the CAIU team as an EPP.”
How has HDFS prepared you?
“It has helped me by teaching me about families, the development of children, adolescents, and adults, but most importantly teaching me to not be hesitant to help others. Child Development, Adolescent Development, the Speech Language Pathology minor classes, Language Development, Linguistics, and Sensation and Perception are the main courses that have helped me the most. But, there are many more that have taught me so much.”
Megan’s Advice
“You don’t have to know what you want to do right away. There is so much pressure out there to know right when you get to school what you want to do in the future. I did not know until my junior year. And now that I know, I can work on bettering myself towards that goal.”
