Dr. Zhao has a background in and experience teaching and researching the musculoskeletal and nervous systems. He has been working with a team of graduate and undergraduate students investigating the role of cannabinoid receptor type 1 (CB1) in skeletal muscle cell differentiation. His findings contribute to the understanding of the role of the endocannabinoid system in skeletal muscle metabolism and muscle oxygen consumption, as well as to help explain the effects of the peripheral endocannabinoid system on whole-body energy balance.
